falsealarm-resized-600Did you know that 98% of all alarm runs are False?  Becasue of this all cities have implemented some type of False Alarm Ordinance.  Some of the ordiances charge for each false alarm any where from $200 up to $500 per incident. If these fines go unpaid a lien could be placed on your property.  Other cities have an Enhanced Call Verifacation which requires the Monitoring Stations to make contact with 2 users on the call list before dispatching. We are seeing larger cities implement complete Alarm Verification before Police are dispatched.  With this ordinance, the alarm user must send a guard or employee on site and verify that the dispatch is a true alarm situation.  As you can see false alarms can be very costly to you as well as become a nuisance to the Police Department.

Here are 5 simple ways you can help prevent False Alarms:

  • Make sure all users of your security system knows how to arm and disarm the system.  Memorize your security code and if you accidentally set off your alarm, call the Monitoring Station right away to inform them so they can cancel the Police.
  • Make sure your alarm system is in good working condition and inspected periodically by your alarm company.  Older systems are prone to send false alarms just due to the age of the system
  • If you have doors opened during the day make sure birds and other animals do not get into your building. These critters will activate a motion detector and send a false alarm.  This includes pets…you need to put them in a carrier when the alarm system is on.
  • Make sure all of  your doors are secure and tight.  Doors that rattle in the wind will send false alarms. Also make sure you door contacts are adjusted properly. Your security system provider can check these for you.
  • Replace your old system with a verified system.  A verified Security System allows the Monitoring  Station to hear or see actual criminal activity.

You had your alarm system installed to protect you mos valuable assets and give you a peace of mind.  When the Police Department are dispatched to your property, you want to make sure they are heading for a true alarm with the hope of catching a criminal….this is the same thing all Police Officers want.  By installing a verified system you can rest assured you have the best possible protection in the industry.  Plus the Police Officers can concentrate on doing their jobs of getting criminals off the streets.

Don’t wait any longer…call your security provider and ask them to inspect your current system or click below and get a free assessment and stop your exisitng security system from sending false alarms.
